Summer School

Well, that was quick! Summer school is over and I swear it just started. Is this just how life is going to go now that we have two? TIME. IS. FLYING.

We enrolled Ruby in a six week summer school program through the City of Costa Mesa. The goal was to give her something to do this summer since I was tied down with the baby and to sort of prep her for her "real" preschool which starts in September. It was a great program - Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am until 1:00 pm with waters days on Thursdays.

We weren't sure how the first day was going to go since this was the first time Ruby was really on her own but she did great. Thank goodness because it was going to be TOUGH for me to walk away if she was crying. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that her first morning was a complete whirlwind? I crack up just thinking about it.... Macy was just five weeks old at the time and she hadn't quite started sleeping through the night. Our sleeping schedules were a little out of whack and so I totally overslept her first morning of school! Yep, Ruby woke me up at 8:38 (school started at 9:00) I seriously FLEW out of bed, threw on some clothes, dressed and fed Ruby, and thankfully remembered to snap a quick picture on our way out the door. Miraculously we made it to school at 9:03. Thank you Mom for coming to watch Macy while I dropped off big sis - we would have never made it on time otherwise. Needless to say I don't think either of us had time to get nervous about the drop off, I was still half asleep! Plus, Ruby was really excited to be a "student" - I am pretty sure we had brainwashed her into thinking that this was a HUGE privilage. So, all in all Ruby's first school experience was a success. She loved her teachers and met some new friends. Only one morning of the entire six week program did she not want to go. When I asked her why it was because she didn't care for "clean up time." Wow.... she really is my daughter.

Heading in on her first day

The cubbies

Jumping right in - she loved the doll house!

Here she was at the end of the first day. I was so happy to see her smiling face when I picked her up!

Ruby was SO excited to show Macy her artwork. As you can tell Macy was REALLY impressed!

We celebrated a great first day with a strawberry sundae - at this point Ruby 100% sold on the school thing!

And finally, a congrats gift from Nana for going to school like a big girl.
Please notice the unbuttoned pants...

And just like that another milestone checked off the list.
We've got a serious big girl on our hands here!
