Our Little Student

I can't believe we have such a big "kid" living under our roof! When did this happen? It feels like I blinked and Ruby went from a newborn to a preschooler overnight.

Preschool started for Ruby about a month and a half ago and I am happy to report that Ruby is a stellar little student. I really wondered if sending her to a preschool that only offered a daily program was the best option, but Ruby is doing great.

Every day as we drive home from school I ask her how school was and every day and I get the standard answer, "good". I then ask what she did at school and nine times out of ten she'll tell me that she "played." I love that it feels that way to her. I also love that she is getting a little taste of what real school will be like by getting to do things like visit the computer lab, the library, and go to science and music class. The days are short and sweet, just three hours so she isn't burnt out. I'd be lying if I didn't admit to wishing the days were longer but then I remind myself that someday I'll look back and beg to have these days with her home back.

It's been fun having her come home singing new songs, hearing her talk about her new friends, and even sharing the daily gossip (like who didn't make it to the potty that day, thankfully never Ruby.)

I had a proud moment the other day when out of the blue Ruby came up to me and started identifying and showing me the parts of a book. "Mommy, this is the PINE (spine)" She went on to show me the front and back covers and title page. I was so impressed and she was so proud she was seriously beaming. So cute. We have already had back to school night and picture day and Chris and I are official members of the Davis PTA - this is for REAL people. Something about this whole experience has me really feeling like  such a..... parent. Yikes. Can't wait for our parent teacher conference in a couple weeks!

A few pictures from the start of school and the weeks since:

Heading off to her first day of school

A quick pose before getting into the car.
(This pose by the way is all Ruby - no guidance given. Such a GIRL)

Daddy came along on the first day. I love my girl's brave face!

Room #29 - Mrs. Diaz & Mrs. Stoner

We walked in and Mrs. Diaz was singing "The Wheels on the Bus" Ruby barely said goodbye - she just went and found a spot on the rug. I was totally fine (no tears) until I saw Ruby begin to sit down (photo on the left) when her friend that we had met at the park the week before, Abigail (blonde curly hair) said "Hi Ruby!" Ruby then got up and moved closer to Abigail and sat down (photo on the right). SO SWEET! Chris and I both kinda melted seeing that.

Tuesdays are library days. Ruby gets to check out a book for the week.
This was her very first book choice.

We receive a weekly behavior report. So far all we've seen are smiley faces.
Hats off to you Mrs. Diaz. You are either lying or you are the super Nanny in disguise.
