Dear Macy,
Welcome to the family little one - we are so glad you are here! I must start this letter by thanking you for being the angel baby you are. Mommy was SO worried that because I was blessed with an "easy" baby with Ruby that I would have the polar opposite this time around. Thankfully you are a really sweet and sleepy baby and so far, (knock on wood) you are also an "easy" baby. I am convinced it's because you can sense the wild child you have for a sister and know that mommy might loose it if you were to be too much of a handful. Hey, whatever it is KEEP IT UP!
This past month has been really fun for our family. Getting to know you and adjusting to being a family of four has gone fairly smoothly. You arrived on a Saturday and I'd say we really hit the ground running. We were out of the hospital and at your first Sunday dinner just 24 hours after arrival and we really haven't stopped since. Daddy even went back to work Monday morning so it was sink or swim for mommy right off the bat. It's so funny how that works with a second baby - life just kind of carries on. You've been taken places we would have never attempted with Ruby as a newborn but because we can't stay locked up for long with a three year old we go for it and you come with. Thanks for going with the flow!
Other fun and notable things about your first month:
- Your first doctor appointment at 3 days old you weighed 6lbs 14oz
- At your 3 week check up you weighed 8lbs 13oz - growing fast!
- I am amazed at how much you spit up. Seriously - whoa! I now understand why babies wear bibs and why moms complain about how much laundry a newborn creates.
- You are constantly puckering your lips. Makes it really tough not to kiss you all the time. So we do.
- I'm sure you have the softest cheeks ever. This ALSO makes it difficult not to smother you with kisses. So we do.
- You really dislike having your diaper changed. Probably your least favorite activity!
- You sleep with Mommy and Daddy. This is something we NEVER did with your sister! You are sleeping in increments of anywhere between 2 and 5 hours at night. Let's keep those 5 hour stretches coming!
- You love to sleep on your tummy. This means you take LOTS of naps on our chests so we can keep a close eye on you.
- Your head control is amazing for how young you are. You started lifting your head immediatley and are getting stronger every day. I LOVE when you are on my chest and you lift your little bobbly head and look right at me with that look of sweet wonder. One of my favorites for sure!
- You love to be held. We call you the "holdie baby" because as long as you are in our arms or snuggling you are content. It works out since I am trying to soak up every moment. So funny how a mothers perspective changes the second time around. With Ruby I was always enjoying the moment while also eagerly looking forward to what was coming next. This time I am trying to enjoy the moment and really stop time because I know how short and sweet this stage really is.
- Big sister wants to hold you all the time and you are very tolerant. I wonder how long that will last...
- You've already been to Chuck E Cheese, The Fish Fry, a Bachelorette viewing party, a Portrait Party at the Khamis house, had dinner at Morton's and attended your friend Zoe's first birthday party. Whew!
- Just days before you hit 4 weeks old you started smiling and cooing - melt my heart!
Love,
Your Mama
Some photos of from your first month:
Snug as a bug
Ruby was thrilled to have you in her bed for snuggles during storytime. She even tried to convince us to leave you in her bed for a sleepover. Um, yea RIGHT.
Spending a little time in your crib as mommy tries to get organized
So, so sweet!
Love that little smile
The infamous pucker face. Love those lips!
I can't help but take advantage of your sleepiness. Photo shoot time!
